So, here's a new cacao recipe to keep your mind sharp, your heart open, and your cacao ritual fresh!
This morning recipe is called Bees & Cacao Trees.
It combines bee pollen and the fruits of the cacao tree into a perfect morning drink.
It is delicious AND refreshing!
Bees & Cacao Trees Morning Recipe
In this recipe, we use Boundless Belize Pure 100% Cacao.
However, you may use any pure cacao and add the special ingredients below.
Instructions
Prepare your cacao as normal (click here for a refresher).
Then, add these ingredients before you froth/blend/stir.
Ingredients
- Boundless Belizean Pure 100% Cacao: 8-12 discs
- Dairy milk alternative: nutmilk, hemp milk, etc: 1 cup
- Local bee pollen: 1/2 tsp
- Cinnamon: add to taste
- Sea salt: small pinch
Bee pollen is a complete protein, rich in vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants. It is rich in B vitamins which are essential for a healthy nervous system and powerful detoxifiers, especially to the brain. We have found that pairing cacao with the pollen of local bees is a potent way to connect with the land you are on, and give thanks to the bee family that does so much for us and our food systems.
Cinnamon is a powerful spice that’s been used for thousands of years. It is high in antioxidants, promotes heart health (along with cacao!), supports the brain, and is anti-fungal/antiviral/antimicrobial. Among other benefits, cinnamon is also excellent for stabilizing blood sugar, which is important as you begin your day to avoid cravings, energy crashes, and mood swings. Cinnamon also provides a hint of sweetness.
The dairy milk alternative in this recipe (as compared to using plain hot water) serves to thicken the recipe and create a more nourishing experience.
Sea salt provides an extra dose of healthy minerals (along with cacao!) and electrolytes to awaken your body-mind. It also stimulates hydrochloric acid and certain enzymes, which will help you kickstart your metabolism and digestion for the day.
