We’re so grateful that with every year that passes at Ora, we keep seeing steady, consistent growth. Thank you for being part of this trajectory. Our aim isn’t to grow exponentially but rather, steadily, like a cacao tree. And with this, we’re able to share the benefits of cacao with more and more folks like yourself, support farmer livelihoods, and increase demand for regenerative, organically grown cacao.

Below we’re diving into the mission and vision of Ora Cacao and sharing our 2025 impact data. It’s amazing what we can accomplish together.

Ora Cacao’s Vision & Mission

If you’ve been with us for a while, you know a bit about our ethos and the heart behind this business. If you’re new, welcome to our corner of reality! Here’s the world that we are contributing towards:

Our vision is to restore a world where all life is respected, human and beyond. The health of humanity is one and the same as the health of our planet. The values of ceremony applied to the world of chocolate provide a clear pathway to regeneration of tropical rainforest ecosystems and widespread emotional, social, and psychological well being.

Our mission is to scale reciprocity-based, regenerative cacao to replace the consumptive and exploitative chocolate industry, that creates:

  • Regeneration and stewardship of vibrant and diverse rainforest ecosystems
  • High value sustainable livelihoods for distributed networks of small family farms
  • Transformational mental health and physical wellness outcomes for people drinking or eating our cacao
  • A cultural mindset shift away from rapid unconscious consumerism towards deliberate ceremonial relationship with the web of life.

Our 2025 Impact

It’s pretty mindblowing to think about the volumes of cacao we’re purchasing and roasting at our factory compared to when we were just starting out 11 years ago. (Thank you to those who have been with us since the Firefly days!)

128,000lbs of cacao purchased. That’s nearly 3 full shipping containers of cacao beans!

Why this matters: we only source regenerative organic cacao. The more regenerative, organic cacao we purchase at a premium, the more we signal to farmers that there is demand for regenerative agroforestry, increasing these practices. Because cacao grows in tropical rainforest ecosystems, supporting regenerative agroforestry protects biodiversity, watersheds, and rebuilds soil health.

98,000lbs of cacao beans roasted at our factory -  that’s ~1.5M cups of cacao!

Why this matters: part of our mission is to support positive health outcomes for all of you drinking our cacao. This means supporting heart health, mineral levels, mood, energy levels, and the invitation for gratitude and intention with each sip.

Almost 2x the average market price for cacao beans

Why this matters: for the thousands of smallholder farmers we source from around the globe, they receive a premium above market price - rewarding them for regenerative practices creating high quality cacao beans - instead of just trying to push their plots for the highest quantity possible. Our vision is a supply chain in which everyone is treated with reciprocity - including the smallholder farmers who grow our cacao.

$8,426 donated to our Farmer Climate Resiliency Fund

A few years ago, we started this fund to further support the farming communities we source from. In the event of a climate disaster (which we have already seen impact our farming communities in Belize and Guatemala), we have funds available to help those farmers get back on their feet. When wildfires swept through our farming partners in Belize, we were able to deploy these funds to support them in purchasing new cacao trees and to supplement their income, as it takes time for trees to yield cacao pods. If you’d like to contribute to this fund, it will pop up as an option in your cart at checkout. Thank you for your contributions this past year to this fund.

Relationship As The Antidote To Unconscious Consumerism And Exploitative Capitalism

The heart of Ora Cacao is about creating right relationship - with the earth, with the farming communities we source from with our direct trade model, with each of our customers by providing the highest quality cacao possible, and with the spirit cacao itself by sharing how to sip cacao with gratitude, intention, and respect.

Cacao is a message of love from the heart of the rainforest to humanity. Cacao offers us humans many gifts: an open heart, long lasting energy, well balanced minerals, impressive cardiovascular benefits, and a resilient positive mood. In reciprocity that stems from mutual respect and recognition of the interdependence of all life, we get to rise to meet cacao’s call to regenerate tropical rainforest ecosystems and provide high value sustainable livelihoods for vast networks of small family agroforestry plots.

We see this spirit of reciprocity,  ignited through recognition of relationship and interdependence as the antidote to overconsumption and a historically exploitative chocolate industry.  Like this, we get to shift the future we’re creating.
