May 1 | Beltane
Beltane is an ancient festival of Celtic origin that marks the turning of the wheel toward summer—a sacred threshold of fire, fertility, and blossoming life. It’s a celebration of passion, creativity, and the full awakening of the Earth. As the veil between worlds thins, we are invited to ignite our inner flame, seed our intentions for the coming season, and connect with the wild intelligence of nature.
Dive Deeper: This is an excellent time to pair your cacao practice with an earth offering, fire offering, and prayers for what sprouts you are tending as the earth begins to blossom forth.
Recommended Cacaos: Celebrate the flowering earth with sensuous Tantric Rose Blossom, infused with rose, orange peel, and damiana.
May 5 | Cinco de Mayo
This day, while thought to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, actually marks a Mexican victory over the French army in 1862 and has evolved to be a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. While cacao originated in the upper Amazon, through extensive trade networks, it made its way to Mexico where it’s been grown since around 1,900 BCE by a pre-Olmec culture, which is why cacao has such deep roots in traditional Mexican culture.
We’re especially grateful to the Zapotec elder, Maria, from Oaxaca, who originally taught Jonas how to make cacao from local beans (you can see photos of her at the bottom of our about page)! Our Oaxacan Spice enhanced cacao is an homage to her teachings and traditional recipe. (Mexico is a net importer of cacao. We would love to be able to share Mexican cacao with you if we can find the right regenerative agroforestry project to source from.)
This is a good day to sit with your cacao in gratitude - for the all the Mesoamerican people who stewarded cacao as a sacred medicine and the miracle that we get to enjoy it today, for any experiences of freedom + safety we currently experience, and sending up prayers to the world for the harmony and peace between all beings.
Recommended Cacao: Oaxacan Spice is a perfect homage to Mexico on this day.
May 11 | Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day invites us into gratitude - for our biological mothers, for the mother figures in our lives, for mother earth, and for the feminine nurturing qualities that reside within us all. It’s a great time to reflect on the essence of the Mother and access our unconditional love, fierce protection, deep wisdom, and endless capacity to nourish.
Recommended Cacao + Mushroom Pairing: We suggest Tantric Rose Blossom with Reishi, offering the amplified heart opening with rose and combined with the grounded, stress-relieving medicine of reishi to offer mama some sweet relief.
May 12 | Full Flower Moon in Scorpio
This full moon is likely to be intense, as Scorpio goes! Scorpio with the Full Moon offers us the opportunity to penetrate through the darkness and see more clearly what was previously hidden. In addition, Scorpio empowers us with the opportunity to transform and be reborn through this discovery and integration.
Recommended Cacao: Dig deep with Mystical Mushroom, enhanced with 11 different mushroom allies that help us connect with the hidden worlds.
May 21 | Gemini Season Begins
You might experience a shift as we move from the slow, grounded, steady energy of Taurus to the flighty, airy, intellectual buzz of Gemini. When the sun is in Gemini, it’s a great time to connect with your local community, share ideas, and nurture your sense of adaptability and flexibility.
Recommended Cacao: Balance the influx of air energy with the focused frequency in Thriving Tanzania.
May 22 | International Day of Biological Diversity
This UN sanctioned day focuses on the harmony and well-being of our planet in our personal, institutional, and global choices. At Ora Cacao, these values are at the heart of all we do and we’re proud to support organic, regenerative cacao agroforestry that increases biodiversity on our planet.
Read more about that here at our blog!
May 26 | New Moon in Gemini & Memorial Day
On this date we have both the New Moon in Gemini, and the American holiday of Memorial Day. For the New Moon, we plant the seeds of our intentions especially related to Gemini themes of community, adaptability, and sharing ideas. With Memorial Day, we have the opportunity in our cacao ritual to acknowledge all the lives lost who have given of themselves for a cause.
Recommended Cacao: Awaken to possibilities at this new moon with the mind expanding Boundless Belize.

May Invocation: “Blossom”
As sprouts turn to summer blooms
I remember the spring, when I was just a young shoot
And the blanket of winter, where I was once cocooned
Recalling the cycles I’ve been through
To get here, where I now blossom and bloom
I’ll pocket this prayer, this ancient remembrances
Of the cycles we must travel
To become initiates
Of the life, death, rebirth
Of the blossoming forth
And I’ll tend the sacred shoots
Of who I am and who I becoming
Holding space for my blossoming
