How do I remain in my heart when using ceremonial cacao?

Living from your heart center is a very personal matter. And there is no blanket answer we can give. However, we can offer one wise word: relationship. Start examining your relationship to cacao. Does your relationship to cacao include any of the following: reciprocity, reverence, connection, presence, breath, movement, ritual, awareness, sacredness, honesty, curiosity, community, intention, love, trust, and/or gratitude? Consider fine-tuning these elements of your relationship with cacao, and you will likely find that you are truly and deeply relating to cacao from your heart.
Ancient cultures have long called cacao a “heart medicine”. Likely this is because simply by drinking ceremonial cacao, you will improve access to your heart; the energy in your heart increases as a result of theobromine—a cardiac stimulant found in cacao. Additionally, the neurotransmitters and neuromodulators in cacao can boost our moods and help us shed the overthinking/analytical mind. When we are not constantly analyzing our bodies and our lives for danger, it’s much easier to connect with our center and access our hearts.
From our personal experience, the more you give from your heart to cacao, the more your heart receives from cacao. Therefore, the most important task is for you to create time and space throughout your days where this heartfelt exchange can happen. And be patient throughout the weeks and months as your heart continues to open. True loving relationships take time, such as with friends and loved ones, and cacao is no different!
