Cacao 101 Course - Day 9
Today’s Cacao: Glowing Guatemala
“When your heart is touched by the medicine of a plant spirit you feel the love and wisdom of the natural world... Plant spirit medicine works partially because it has broad perspective. It does not only look through the eyes of physics and chemistry; it sees human beings as expressions of divine natural forces, it plumbs the human mind and emotions. It gives paramount importance to spirit, the mysterious core of our beings.” - Plant Spirit Medicine by Eliot Cowan
Now that you’ve come to know some of cacao’s qualities, it’s time to meet the spirit of cacao.
Indigenous cultures around the world have long recognized the power of plant spirits, understanding that plants have distinct personalities and offer invaluable wisdom when we take the time to listen. Through this all-encompassing awareness, we can find harmony and balance with the natural world and open ourselves up to a whole new realm of understanding.
The structures of our modern society have distanced those of us who have grown up in the western world from having this intimate experience with nature as sentient. Part of decolonizing cacao means learning to relate to this plant as a living spirit that we can connect to and learn from.
It can be helpful to think of a plant spirit such as cacao, as an individual... as a unique divinity, as a being that you can relate with.
Imagine if all the rules you have for relating with a human applied!
Many people find that the cacao spirit has very feminine qualities, and choose to relate to cacao as such - but you can also find your own way to interact with cacao and discover the unique bond you have with this plant.
It’s time for you to prepare your cacao, and meet the spirit of Cacao.
After you’ve lovingly prepared your cacao with the practice you created yesterday, settle down and listen to the guided meditation.
Reflection for day 9
1. Did the spirit of cacao present itself to you? What did you notice? How did this plant’s spirit show up for you today?
2. Write down any insights or important moments from your experience during this meditation
