If your usual cacao preparation could use a seasonal update, we’ve been loving this combination of Boundless Belize, maple, cardamom, cinnamon, and vanilla. Maple adds a rich sweetness to the cacao, while cardamom and cinnamon bring just enough warming spice to complement the changing weather without overpowering the cacao itself.

Keep reading to discover why these flavors work so well together and how to make this creamy spiced recipe at home.

Why Maple + Cardamom Pair So Well With Cacao

Maple and cardamom are what give this recipe its distinct flavor. Pure maple syrup adds a rich, caramel-like sweetness that pairs naturally with cacao, while cardamom brings a fragrant warmth with subtle floral and citrus notes. Together, they create a balance of sweetness and spice that feels warming without being too heavy. Cinnamon deepens the spice profile, while a touch of vanilla and sea salt rounds out the recipe and brings out the richness of the cacao.

For the cacao, we chose Boundless Belize. Its expansive and expressive qualities make it a beautiful cacao for creativity and meditation, and it pairs especially well with the maple and aromatic spices in this recipe.

Together, maple, cardamom, cinnamon, and vanilla create a creamy, aromatic cacao that’s lightly sweet and warming without being overly complex. It’s a simple recipe that pairs perfectly with cool fall mornings.
